Israel Kalman's approach to bullying in schools and why he thinks the modern approach is failing.
*For a view from the other side, please see my interview with Jan Urbanski of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, which will be available at the following link on May 16th at 6 PM. https://youtu.be/Hv6rV55zkk0 These two interviews should highlight the two prevailing thoughts with regard to the issue of bullying. Kalman says we need to teach kids how not to be a victim. The Olweus approach attempts to change the culture of a school by making sure everyone knows bullying will not be tolerated.* Israel 'Izzy' Kalman is a school psychologist, author, and one of the only critics of the modern anti-bullying - or bullying prevention - movement. With 40 years experience as a school psychologist, Kalman says the modern bullying prevention movement is failing. He says it's failing because it is a political movement - not a practical one. Kalman says, because 'everybody thinks the bully is somebody else,' nothing changes.
